what is the role of the circulatory system?
it moves blood (oxygen, nutrients) through the body to bring cells the subsances they need or to rid them of the waste they produce
What are the main parts of the circulatory system?
heart, blood and blood vessels
what is the function of the heart?
the ventricles push blood out, the left ventricle contracts to push blood out to the entire body and the light ventricles push blood out to the lungs
What are the main parts of blood?
platellets: coagulation less than 1%
red blood cells: carries oxygen and carbon dioxide 45% white blood cells: play a role in immunity, protection against antigens+elimination of dead cells less than 1% plasma: transports solid things 55% |
What is the function of blood?
plays a role in bringing the body what it needs and ridding it of waste
What are the blood vessels?
arteries, arteriole, cappillaries, venules and veins.
What are arteries?
they are blood vessels with thick, elastic walls that withstand a large amount of pressure
What are aterioles?
the arteries divide into smaller and smaller arteries then into arterioles
What are cappillaries?
Since the blood circulation is very slow in the cappillaries, this is where exchanges occur by diffusion between the blood and the cells. The cells receive nutritional substances and oxygen
What are venules?
they keep getting bigger and bigger until they turn into veins. They have muscles and valves that ensurrre that the blood returns to the heart
what is the path blood follows to the heart?
heart---->artery---->arteriole---->cappilaries---->venule---->vein----->heart
