Circle
Set of all points in a plane such that the points are equidistant from a fixed point called a center
Radius
A line segment from the center of the circle to any point of the circle
Chord
a line segment whose endpoints are both on the circle.
Tangent
A line that intersects the circle at exactly one point.
Secant
a line that intersects the circle at two points.
Central Angle
An angle whose vertex is that the center.
Inscribed Angle
an angle whose vertex is on the circle and whose sides contain chords of the circle
Arc
A segment of a circle
Minor Arc: An arc that is less than half the circle
Major Arc: An arc that is more than half the circle
Use the endpoints and the other point to name
Intercepted Arc
each endpoint is on a different ray of an angle and the other points are on the interior of the angle.
Quadrant
One quarter of a circle
Central Angle Rule
The degree of an arc is equal to the central angle that intercepts that arc.
The measure of an inscribed angle is...
one half of the measure of its intercepted arc.
In a circle, or in 2 congruent circles, congruent central angles have...
congruent chords
In a circle, or in 2 congruent circles, congruent arcs have...
congruent chords
A diameter perpendicular to a chord...
bisects the chord and its arcs.
Two inscribes angles that have the same arc are...
congruent
Tangent segments drawn to a circle from the same external point are...
Congruent
The angle formed by a tangent and a chord intersecting at the point of tangency is...
equal to one half the measure of the intercepted arc.
The angle formed by two chords intersecting within a circle is equal to...
one half the sum of the measures of the arc intercepted by the angle and its vertical angle.
The angle formed by a tangent and a secant, or two secants, or two tangents intersecting outside a circle is equal to...
one half the difference of the measures of the intercepted arcs.
If a line is tangent to a circle, the line is {blank} to the radius drawn to the point of tangency
perpendicular
If two chords intersect within a circle, the product of the measures of the segments of one of the chords...
equals the product of the measures of the line segments of the other.
If a tangent and a secant are drawn from an external point, then the square of the tangent is...
equal to the product of the measure of the secant and its external segment.
If two secants intersect outside a circle, then the product of the measures of one secant segment and its external is...
equal of the other secant segment and its external.
