Difference between prokaryotes and eukaryotes?

Prokaryotes = DNA in a single circular molecule
Chromosomes in nucleoid
Little DNA so require packaging

Eukaryotes = DNA arranged into linear chromosomes
1 set from mother, 1 set from father
Chromosomes in nucleus, mitochondria, chloroplasts

Fluorescence in situ hybridization?

Complementary fluorescent probes bind to DNA to identify DNA sequences on chromosomes

How is a chromosome formed?

DNA wraps around 8 histone core, becoming nucleosome -> becomes chromatosome -> folds to make 30nm fiber -> forms 300nm loops -> compressed and coiled into chromatid

Plasmids

Small circular DNA molecules in which bacterial DNA is packaged. Bacteria swap plasmids for efficacy.
