dynasty

A line of hereditary rulers of a country a series of people from the same family who ruled China

Han Dynasty

Fell in 220 A.D. a time of disorder, chaos, and confusion followed the fall of the dynasty. China was divided.

Sui Dynasty

First to reunify China. Emperor Wendi. Allowed people to follow own belief system and took on public work projects.

Tang Dynasty

Expanded borders. Improved roads and canals to reunify China. One of the most advanced governments in the world

Song Dynasty

Expanded and improved exam system. Set up schools throughout China in hopes of more people being involved in government.

Work of building such things as roads or schools carried out by the government for the community. Great Wall of China and Grand Canal.

The Grand Canal

Waterway that linked northern and southern China. Used for travel and trade. Built by Sui Dynasty.

Long and difficult test given to get to a government job. Tested Confucianism, art, poetry, and other. Most who took it failed.

An educated person with a government position. Generally from a wealthy family.
