Uterus

Or womb, is the muscular organ where the fetus grows.

Birth Canal
|
Is made up of the vagina and the lower third, or neck, of the uterus, called the Cervix.

|
Contains a mucous plug that seals the uterine opening. Preventing contamination from the outside world.

|
Is the developing, unborn infant that grows inside the mother's uterus for aprox 9 months.

Is the outermost cavity of a womans repoductive system and forms the lower part of the birth canal.

Perineum
|
Is the area of skin between the vagina and the anus. During birth, as the infant moves through the birth canal, the perineum will begin to bulge significantly.

Placenta
|
A disc shaped structure, attaches to th einner lining of the wall of the uterus and is connected to the fetus by the umbilical cord.

Umbilical cord
|
Is the infants life line, connecting mother and infant through the placenta. The umbilical cord contains two arteries and one vein.

Amniotic Sac
|
The sac contains about 500- 1,000 ml of amniotic fluid, which helps insulate and protect the floating fetus as it develops.

|

Is a woman who has had more than one baby born alive.

Has had one live birth.
