What is the contagious period of chicken pox?

People are contagious about 2 days before the rash appears until all of them scab over

How should you treat chicken pox?
|
Treat the symptoms (itching!)
- frequent bathes in lukewarm water.. can add some oatmeal or aveeno - cool compress - Burrow's solution.. is an astringent - Calamine is astringent, antipruritic (but can cake) - only ORAL antihistamines Fever and pain with acetaminophen or ibuprofen |

Topical antifungals such as clotrimazole, miconazole, ketoconazole.. etc Treat for min 2-3 weeks and at least 1 week after it's gone |

tinea cruris.. jock itch.
- dry feet last.. change your towels - decrease occlusion and moisture - use topical antifungals min 3wk tx |

- topical tx not effective if toenails are involved |

nystatin susp 500 000 units swish and swallow QID for 7-14 days

used to treat tinea versicolor...
- a shampoo - apply OD for 14 days - use once or twice a month to prevent recurrences |
