King
|
Can only move one square in any direction. If your king is captured, you lose the game

Queen
|
Most powerful piece. Can move in any direction, any number of spaces, per turn.

Bishop
|
Can move diagonally forward or backwards., as many spaces as you want, per turn. There are 2 bishops, one for the light spaces, and one for the dark spaces.

Horse or Knight
|
Can jump over any piece. Each movement is one space sideways and one space diagonal.

Rook
|
Can move backwards, or to the side, as many spaces as you want.
|
|
Pawn-the very first time you move the pawn, you can move it one or two spaces.
|
Can move only forward, one space per turn. Exception: If you are taking a piece with the pawn, you move it diagonally one space.
