List four common chemoprotectants and their uses
|
Mesna (Mesnex) - protects against hemorrhagic cystitis caused by cyclophosphamide and ifosfamide. Mesna binds the destructive metabolite.
Dexrazoxane (Zinecard) - cardioprotectant from anthrocyclines (rubicins). Free oxygen radicals damage heart; this drug scavenges the radicals. Amifostine (Ethyol) - Prevents nephrotoxicity with cisplatin. Can cause HoTN and severe N/V. Also used for radiation SE. Leucovorin - methotrexate inhibits dihydrofolate reductase, leading to myelosuppression and mucositis. Leucovorin rescues normal cells. |
