Chemistry

The study of the composition, structure, and properties of matter, the processes that matter undergoes, and the energy changes that accompany these processes.

Inorganic (chemistry)

Study of non organic substances. Inorganics are used as catalysts, pigments, coatings, surfactants, medicines, fuels, and more.

Physical (chemistry)

Study of understanding physical properties of atoms and molecules by use of instrumentation and equipment.

Analytical (chemistry)

Identification of compounds and composition of materials.

Biochemistry

Study of chemical processes and substances in living things.

Organic (chemistry)

Study of compounds containing carbon.

The three types of research

Basic research - used for the sake of knowledge (out of curiosity)

Applied research - used to solve a problem

Technological developments - production of equipment to improve quality of life.

Extensive properties

Properties which depends on the amount of matter present

Intensive properties

Do not depend on amount of matter present.

Solid

Strong force, low energy, tightly packed molecules

Liquid

Loosely packed, medium energy, medium attractive forces

Gas

Not tightly packed, little to no attractive force, extremely high energy
