What is an atom?
A very small particle that makes up most kinds of matter and consists of electrons, protons, and neutrons.
What is matter?
Anything that has mass and takes up space.
What are elements?
Pure substances that cannot be changed into simplier substances. Composed of only one type of atom.
What are compounds?
Pure substances that contain two or more elements.
What are mixtures?
A combination of substances that are mixed together. Ex: Trail mix and salad
What is the Law Of Conservation of Matter?
Matter is neither created nor destroyed.
What are the physical properties of metals (5)?
Luster (shine), Conductors (Heat and electricty move through), Malleable(ability to be hammered/bent into shape), Ductile(wire drawn through),& high density(Heavy)
What are the physical properties of nonmetals (3)
Dull, nonconductors (heat and electricity do not move through easily, & Brittle (Break easy)
What is pH?
A measure of concentrationof solutions of acids and bases on a scale of 1-14.
What is melting point?
it is the temperature at which a solid can change to a liquid.
What is boiling point?
is the temperature at which a liquid changes into a gas.
What are some pH indictators?
Litmus paper, pH paper, cabbage juice, and Phenolphthalein
What are some indicators of a chemical change?
Color change, temperature change, precipitate formation, and gas formation (fizzing and bubbling)
