What is an atom?
A very small particle that makes up most kinds of matter and consists of electrons, protons, and neutrons.

Anything that has mass and takes up space.
What are elements?
Pure substances that cannot be changed into simplier substances. Composed of only one type of atom.

Pure substances that contain two or more elements.
