Polarisation

The distortion of the electron cloud in a molecule or ion by a nearby change.

Delocalised electrons

Bonding electrons that are not fixed between two atoms in a bond. They are free to move and shared by several or many more atoms.

Metallic bonding

Strong attraction between a lattice of positive metal ions and a 'sea' of delocalised electrons.

Things affecting polarising power

1. Size of cation radius

2. Charge of cation

3. Size of anion radius

Dative covalent bond

A bond where 2 atoms share a pair of electrons, both the electrons being donated by one atom.
