What's an element?
One type of atom, eg. Au, Na, Fe..
What's a compound?
Two or more atoms chemically bonded, eg. CO2.
Metal tends to form what? (charges)
Cations.
Non-metals tend to form what? (charges)
Anions.
What's an Ion compound?
It's a compound made by one metal and one non-metal, this compound forms a lattice which crystallizes.
What's a chemical bond?
There are three types of chemical bonds:
-ionic bond, holds ions together, metal + non-metal, by transferring electrons.
-Covalent bond, holds non-metal together by sharing electrons.
-Metallic bonding, holds metals together by pool of electrons.
Negative ions have a special prefix, which?
They're called by their name +
-ide.
What do positive ions do?
They loose x numer electron.
What do negative ions do?
They gain x number electron.
What types of covalent bonds are there?
-Simple bond, each atom is sharing 1 electron each.
-Double bond, each atom shares two electrons.
-Triple bond, each atom shares three electrons.
Optimum distance.
Gives bond strength.
What's the energy that is released when bonds form called?
Dissocationstance.
What type of electronegativity is there?
-Lesser than 0,5 here bonds are non-polar.
-Greater than 0,5 here bonds are polar.
-Greater than 1,8 here ionic bonds form.
