What does organic mean?
An organic molecule is a molecule that contains nitrogen, oxygen, carbon, and hydrogen.
What does inorganic mean?
An inorganic molecule is a molecule that does NOT contain nitrogen oxygen, carbon and hydrogen.
What is an atom?
An atom is the building block of matter and the smallest part of an element.
What is an element?
An element is a substance that is made up of several of the same molecules. An example of an element is gold
What is a molecule?
A molecule is two or more atoms put together, smallest unit of a compound. A molecule is similar to an atom with two or more atoms bonded
What is a compound?
A compound is a substance made up of several of the same molecules.
What is a nucleus?
The nucleus is the center of the atom.
What charge does a proton have?
The protons are a part of the atom and has a positive charge.
What charge does a neutron have?
The neutrons are also part of the atom and has no charge
What is the charge of electrons?
The electron orbits the nucleus and has a negative charge.
What are the four types of organic molecules?
The four types of protein is the proteins, carbohydrates, lipids and necleic acids.
What is protein used for?
Protein is used for structure repair and building you.
What are the building parts of protiens?
Proteins are made from amino acids.
What are carbohydrates used for?
Carbohydrates are used for energy storage and use.
What is the building blocks of carbohydrates?
Carbohydrates are made up by monosaccharides or simple sugars.
What are carbohydrates?
Carbohydrates are sugars and starches.
What are proteins?
Proteins are muzcle and enzymes.
What are lipids?
Lipids are fats, oils, and waxes
What are lipids used for?
Lipids are used for energy and long term storage.
What are the building blocks of lipids?
The building blocks of lipids are fatty acids.
What are nucleic acids?
Nucleic Acid is DNA and RNA.
What are nucleic acids made of?
The building blocks of nucleic acid are sugars, phosphate and base molecules?
What to you need to be a living thing?
To be a living organism you have to have cells, reproduce, have DNA or RNA, grow, use energy, responde and maintain homeostasis.
What are enzymes?
Enzymes are organic molecules that speed reactions.
What are effected by enzymes?
PH, Tempature and concentration
What is the lock and key therory based on?
The lock and key theory is based on shape.
What does hydrolysis mean?
Hydrolysis means to break with water.
What is dehydration synthesis?
Dehydration synthesis is putting together by removing water.
What are characteristics of acids?
Acids tast sour, react strongly to metals, and is dangerous and can burn your skin.
What are examples of acids?
Some examples of vinegar, citrus fruit and stomach acid.
What is the pH of acids?
If a molecule has a pH of 0 it is very strong. But, a 6.9 pH is a WEAK molecule.
What is the pH of a neutral molecule?
If a molecule has a pH of seven it is a neutral molecule.
What are some chacteristics of bases?
Bases have a bitter taste, and feel slippery.
What are examples of bases?
Some examples of bases are lye and ammonia.
What is the pH of of bases?
A pH of 7.1 is a very weak acid and a pH of 14 is a strong acid.
