Why does a solid have definate shape?
Because its particles cling rigidly to one another
What is an amorphus solid?
A solid that does not have shape or form, such as plastic and gels.
Why does a liquid have definate volume but not definate shape?
Liquid has particles that stick firmly but not rigidly, particles are able to move about freely causing liquid fluidity, causing it to take the shape of the container it is kept in.
Why does gas have no definate volume, and no fixed shape?
Gas has particles that move independant of one another, and have gained enough energy to overcome the attractive forces that held them together as liquids or solids. Gas continually presses in all directions on the walls of any container and fills it completely.
Why can a gas be compressed rather easily?
Gas is compressed easily because its particles are relatively far apart, allowing gas to be compressed or expanded easily.
