Particle theory
All matter is made up of tiny fast moving particles
Solid
Particles have a strong attraction for each other, packed tightly together and appear to be vibrating in a fixed position ( definite size and shape )
Liquid
The particles have a weak force of attraction for each other, so they are packed loosely together. They spend most of their
time vibrating against each other, but occasionally slip past one another
into a new position where they continue vibrating – they appear to be
vibrating about a position that is moving. (definite size; indefinite shape)
Gas
The particles of a gas have no attraction for each other, so their
particles are far apart and travel in straight lines between collisions.
(indefinite size and shape)
