Chemical bond

It is an attractive force that binds atoms together in molecules or crystal lattices.

GN lewis

He introduced the theory of shared electron pair and he concluded that atoms combine to achieve a more stable electron configuration resulting in molecules and compounds.

High potential energy

It occurs when the particle is independent. Atoms obtain low-potential energy when they bond with each other. this results stable arrangement of matter.

Octet rule

It state that atoms tend to gain or lose electron until there are right electrons in their valance shell.

Types of chemical bonding

Characteristics of arrangement of atoms depends on the types of chemical bonding. These are:

1.ionic bond

2.covalent bond

3.mtallic bond

Ionic bonding

An ion is electrically charged particle. It is also known as electrovalent bond.

It is formed by the transfer of electron from metals(low ionization energy) to non metals (high electron affinity).

The positive is cation and the negative is anion.

Metals have 1-3 electrons while non metals have 4-7 electrons.

Hydrogen can form both cation and anion(NaH).

Properties of ionic bonding

They all are crystalline solid.

They have high melting point, boiling point and density.

They are hard and brittle.

They are soluble in polar solvents like water but insoluble on non polar solvents.

They are non-volatile.

They transmit electricity in molten and aqueous state but not in solid state.

They are resistant to heat.

Electrostatic force of attraction

It is setup between cation and anion when brought close to one another.
