How to test for sulphate ion?

Add hydrochloric acid then a few drops of barium chloride solution.


White precipitate formed.

How to test for halide ion?

Add nitric acid then a few drops of silver nitrate solution.


Will form white - yellow precipitate depending on ion.

Test for carbonate ions

Add hydrochloric acid to solution, if you see bubbles, use tube to let bubbles through lime water. If lime water turns cloudy, then carbonate.
