What chemical reaction is your team doing?

A Exothermic Reaction because the foam produced is hot.

What is the balanced chemical equation for the reaction?

2H2O2 → 2H2O(l) + O

What are the names of the reactants in the chemical equation?

The reactants in the chemical equation are: hydrogen peroxide, potassium iodide, dish soap and yeast.

What are the names of the products in the chemical equation?

Hydrogen peroxide, yeast, liquid dish soap, food coloring and warm water.

HP Yeast Dish Soap FColoring Water

HPY DS FC W

What type of reaction is this?

This is a decomposition reaction, which is when a molecule breaks down into two smaller molecules.

How did you determine the type of reaction?

By research online and by the way that the bottle feels warm, which signals that it is an exothermic reaction.

Is the reaction endergonic or exergonic? Endothermic or exothermic? Does it absorb or release energy in any other form (light, sound,)?

Our chemical reaction is an exergonic reaction because it releases energy as the reaction takes place. It is an exothermic reaction, which means it creates heat and energy and releases it.

How might you experience this chemical reaction in everyday life? Is it a useful reaction? Are there any negative aspects or problems with the reaction (pollutants released, etc.)?

In everyday life, we could see exothermic reactions in the way a candle burns and releases heat into the atmosphere, the rusting of iron which produces heat and causes a change in color, and the burning of sugar. It’s a useful reactions because it is involved in baking to create substances that are edible, but can also be harmful in the way that it can destroy environments without too much heat production, such as nuclear fissions (they also produce radiation, which is extremely harmful).
