Used to stabilizes the hand and the instruments.

Cotton Roll Isolation

Advantages :

•Easy application

•No additional equipment is required

•Cotton rolls are available in a variety of sizes and are flexible for easy adaptability to areas of the mouth.

Disadvantages :

•Does not provide at complete isolation

•Does not protect the patient from aspiration

•If removed improperly, a dry cotton roll may stick to the oral mucosa and cause injury.

•Cotton rolls must be replaced frequently because of saturation

•Limited retraction

Is the most common type of isolation used for short procedures, such as examinations, application of sealants, cementation of casting, and simple restorations.

The HVE

-Is used to remove saliva, blood, water, and debris during a dental procedure.

-Has three main purposes:

Always contaminated with blood

HIV, HBV, and HCV

The most common blood born microorganisms(diseas) of concern in dentistry.

Sharps container

-It must be puncture-resistant, closable, leakproof, and color-codes or labeled with the biohazard symbol

-Contaminated needles and other disposable sharps, such as scalpel blades, orthodontic wired, and broken glass, must be placed in side.

Hand Washing

You must do this before and after yoi put on gloves

Surface Disinfection

- the CDC the ADA, and OSAP recommend at least weekly biologic monitoring of sterilization equipment

Also called spores testing

OSHA Blood borne Pathogen (BBP) Standard

-OSHA's BBP standard is the most important infection control law in dentistry.

-It is designed to protect employees against occupational exposure to blood borne diseases-causing organisms, such as HBV, HCV, and HIV.

-The BBP requires employers to protect their employees from exposure to blood and Other Potentially Infectious Material(OPIM) in the workplace and to provide proper care to the employee if an exposure should occur.
