Adipose Tissue |
Fat that is composed primary of adipocytes. |
Areoloar Tissue |
Tissue made up of collagen and elastin fibers in a gel-like intercellular matrix. Tissue is soft and surrounds, protects, and, cushions many organs. |
Chondrocytes |
Secrete a protein-containing intercellular matrix that becomes firm, smooth, and rubbery. |
Columnar Epithelium |
Tall and Narrow and look like columns |
Connective Tissue |
The most abundant of the four tissue types and is widely distributed throughout the body. Found in blood, under the skin, in bone, and in many other organs. Binds the body parts together. |
Cuboidal Epithelium |
Cube look alike cells and look like dice. |
Endocrine Glands |
Secrete hormones, such as insulin. |
Exocrine Glands |
Have ducts, or tiny tubes, into which the exocrine secretions are released before reaching body surface or body body cavities. Secretions include: mucus, sweat, saliva, and digestive enzymes. |
Fascia |
Covers, supports, and anchors organs to nearby structures. |
Intercellular Matrix |
The second characteristic shared by most connective tissues is an abundance of intercellular matrix. |
Ligaments |
Cross joints and attach bones together. |
mucous tissue |
Line all body cavities that open to the exterior of the body. Include digestive, urinary, reproductive, and respiratory tracts. |
Muscle Tissue |
Composed of cells that shorten or contract |
Nervous Tissue |
Makes up brain, spinal cord, and nerves. |
Osseous Tissue |
Immature bone cells |
Parietal Layer |
Lines walls with cavity |
