Eating Disorders
Disorders of food ingestion, regulation or attitude that affect health and well-being, such as anorexia, bulemia or binge-eating
Anorexia Nervosa
Intense fear of gaining weight or becoming "fat", couppled with refusal to maintain adequate nutrition with severe loss of body weight.
Purge
The removal of food from the body by self-induced vommiting or misuse of laxitives, diuretics or edemas.
Bulimia Nervosa
Frequent occurence of binge eating episodes accompanied by a sense of loss of control of overeating and recurrent inappropriate behaviors such as purging or excessive excersice to prevent weight gain.
Eating Disorder not otherwise specified
A diagnostic cataregory reserved for the disorders o feating that do not meet the critiria for any other specific ating disorders.
Binge Eating Disorder (BED)
Distinct from non-purging bulimia nervosa, whereby binging is not accompanied by inapropriate compensatory behavior to limit wieght gain
Meta-analysis
Is a statistical method used to combine the results of a number of similar research studies, the data from each seperate study are transformed into a comon metric scale called "effective size"

The expirience of an emotional state characterized by negative emotions.
Perfectionism
The need to get things excactly right. a personality trait that may increase the risk for development of eating disorders.
Ramdonized controlled trials
Involves a specific treatment group as well as a control treatment group. Participants have equal chance of being placed in either group because the are assigned radomly.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Therapy based on altering dysfunctional thoughts and cognitive dysfuctions.
Obesity
The condition of having elevated fat masses in the body. it is defined as having a BMI of 30 or higher.
Body Mass Indesx (BMI)
An estimate of total body fat.
