Expressing desire - Imperfect subjunctive in independent clauses
1) The imperfect subjunctive can also be used with querer in an independent sentence to express a wish.

"I would like to..."
Quisiera colgar este cuadro en esta pared.

-->I would like to hang this picture on this wall.
2) Quién followed by the imperfect subjunctive in exclamatory sentences expresses a wish that can't easily be fulfilled.
¡Quién tuviera su habilidad con el dibujo!

--> I wish I had this drawing ability!
