John Diefenbaker, Bill of Rights

The October crisis- the war measures act

The flq kidnapped James cross and demanded for the release of imprisoned members and the public reading of their manifesto. The premier Robert bourassa agreed to most of their demands but refused to release the prisoners so they kidnapped Pierre Laporte. Trudeau then imposed the war measures act. On October 16 the federal troops patrolled Ottawa and Montreal and arrested thousands of people

Was when cuban rebels led byg Fidel Castro overthrew the pro us dictatorship. In 1962 us surveillance showed that the ussr was installing offensive nuclear missile bases in Cuba. These were a dig threat to us security. A naval and air blockade was made and the world was on the Brink of war

The war in Vietnam

Was divided almost in half north of Vietnam communist government and the government which was supported by the us. The Americans felt if Vietnam fell to communism the other Asian countries would fall as well. When the us pulled out the north took over

The feeling on the part of western Canada that federal policies favour central Canada it has led to the rise of several regional parties including the Canadian alliance party. Westerners thought the federal government favoured central Canada at expense of the west

The Cold War plans- democracy vs communists

The world was divided between the west (us and it’s allies) and the east ( communist china, the Soviet Union and countries friendly to it)
