What happens if the box lock cracks on hemostats? |
It is usually not repairable. A cracked box lock weakens the instrument, which can fail while in use and permit blood and any body fluids to enter, making cleaning and sterilization very difficult. |
|
How can you check/test if hemostats are not broken? |
Close on the first ratchet holding the tip of the instrument by the tip and tap on the palm of your hand or gently on the table. If it pops open, no good. |
|
Hemostat jaws have different patterns depending on what, and what are the patterns? |
They have different patterns depending on intended use of the hemostat. The serrations can be horizontal (lines are straight across from each other), longitudinal (the serrations are placed length wise from the tip of the jaw), or criss-crossed (similar to a diamond design) |
