population ecology

study of populations in relation to their environments

mark-recapture method

a sampling technique used to estimate the size of animal populations. Ecologists mark an animal and allow it to live in it's habitat for a set period. The ecologist will then capture a portion of the population and count the number of marked individuals. Number of marked in the sample should be in the same proportion as the number of captured individuals over the entire population.
