What are Managers?

Managers are individuals who plan, organise, co-ordinate and control businesses on a daily basis.

What is Management?

Management is a set of well know process such as; planning, budgeting, structuring & staffing jobs, measuring perfomance and problem solving.

What does the nature of management involve?

Why is Setting Objectives important in management?

Because the managers need a clear idea of what they want to achieve. Objectives need to be specific and clear.

Why is Analysing important in management?

Business conditions need to be analysed because it made lead to new objectives needing to be set.




Also, the performance of staff need to be analysed. For example, Morrisons' set its checkout staff the target of scanning items for no more than 3 seconds. Anyone who failed to do this got moved to a different job task in the store.




How effectively objectives are met- to see if it wil actually help meet aims.

Why is Market decisions important in management?

Managers need to understand the risks and choosing whats best for your business meeting deadlines, (which could involve delegating some tasks).

Why is Organising important in management?

So that Managers can make sure everyone knows what they're doing.

Why is Leading important in management?

So that Managers can inspire/motivate staff, helping them be more successful, (increasing motivation, sales, and profit).

Why is Reviewing important in management?

It's important for Managers to review every decision so that they can learn from mistakes.




If a Manager does make the wrong decision than they can get someone who wasn't part of the original decision for fresh ideas.

What is Leadership?


Taking an organisation into the future, identifying opportunities, and successfully carrying them out.

What is a Leader?

Someone with a vision who can drive a business forwards.

Who is Henri Fayol?

A french business executive who suggested that 'to manage is to forecast and plan, to organise, to command, to co-ordinate and to control'.
