ELECTROTHERAPY

Application of special currents (modalities) that have certain effects on the skin.

ELECTRODE

Safe contact point through which current can pass to client.

PHORESIS

Process of forcing an acid/alkali into the skin by applying current to the chemical.

GALVANIC CURRENT

Active electrode applied directly to client; client holds inactive electrode, both active and inactive electrodes should be wrapped in moist cotton.

ANAPHORESIS

Negative pole of galvanic current (increases blood flow)

CATAPHORESIS

Positive pole of galvanic current (slows blood flow)

IONTOPHORESIS

Introduces water-soluble products into the skin (desincrustation)

FARADIC CURRENT

Alternating current; produces mechanical effects, stimulates nerve and muscle tissue, improved blood circulation, improved muscle tone; stimulation of hair growth, increased glandular activity.

SINUSIODAL CURRENT

Alternating current, mechanical effect, penetrates deeper greater stimulation.

TESLA CURRENT

High frequency current, "violet ray"; alternating current, different voltages produce heat; can offer stimulation and relaxation.
