The Computer (Breaking it Down)

An electronic device that can perform calculations.

1. Power Up. Computers un on electricity

2. Processing parts prepare for action

3. You provide input

4. Processing parts process your command

5. Processing parts send output information to your output devices

6. Output devices show you the results

7. Repeat steps 3-6 until you are satisfied with your work

8. Save your work

9. Power down the computer

General Purpose Computers - Apple MAC, Apple Ipad, Smartphone and Portable Computer. Computers built inside a device - Modernn Refrigerators, airplanes, Automobiles (built after 1995), boats, Mall lightening systems, Zambonis and Home security systems.

Common Specific Purpose Computers - Apple Ipad, Pocket Calculators, Digital Watch, Digital Clock, Wi-FI pictur Frame, Basic obile Phone, Xbox One, Playstation 4, GPS, TiVo, Point of Sale (POS), Digital Camera and Camcorder.

The Computing Parts

The modern computer consist of three major components

Hardware (physical stuff)

Operating System (UI/GUI)

Applications (or programs)

Hardware - the physical stuff that you can touch or hold in your hand (smartphone (touch) / personal computer (touch the keyboard or view images on the monitor).

Operating System - controls the hardware and enables you to tell the computer what to do (a collection of windows and icons to use and touch).

*User Interface (UI) - softwre parts with which you can interact

*Graphical User Interface (GUI) - offers images or icons which, you can select as oppose to making you type commands

Applications - perform specific task (type a letter, send a message from a computer, wander through imaginary)

The Computing Stages

Computing Process

Input - Users provide input that directs how the data should be processed

Processing - The parts inside the device takes over at that point.

*Mainly navigated by the Central Processig Unit or, the BRAIN (CPU) to handle the majority of the processing task.

Output - The computer has proessed the request by changing what you see.

Input - Clicking the mouse and typing on the keyboard or touching the touch screen.

*Tell the computer to save something

Processing - The operatng system tells the hardware to do what you requested

*The CPU processes the command and stores the data

Output - Results show changes that are played out on display screen or through speakers.

* the computer shows yiu a message saying that the data is stored
