What is the cell wall?
Surrounds the cell membrance; gives strength and support to the cell.

Made out of cellulose.
What is the cell membrane?
Acts as a barrier between the cell and the cells' environment. (Keep cytoplasm in and waste products out)
What is the chloroplasts?
Photosynthesis occurs here; green from chlorophyll
What is the Endoplasmic Reticulum?
Breaks down drugs/etc. (bad stuff) that could damage the cell; the INTERNAL delivery system of the cell.
What is the Golgi Bodies?
The cell's processing and shipping organelle; lipids and proteins are modified for different functions then the final product is enclosed in a membrane and transported to other parts of the cell.
What are Lysosomes?
Special Vesicles in animal cells that contain enzymes, used to dissolve food, destroy worn-out organelles, get rid of waste, and protect against invaders.
What is the Mitochondria?
Creates ATP, the cell's fuel, is made here, they must have a supply of oxygen (thus the reason we breath in)
What is the nucleus?
Contains the DNA and is the control center of the Cell
What are ribosomes?
The site were amino acids are hooked together to make proteins.
What is a vacuole?
Large Membrane covered chamber; stores water and other liquids.
What is unicellular?
Single Celled and lives on its own.
What is an animal cell?
Doesn't have a cell wall, chloroplast, large vacuole. But does have everything else.
What is a plant cell?
Has a large vacuole, cell wall, and a chloroplast, and all the other organelles.
What is a phospholipid?
Molecules that form much of the cell membrane.
What is the Organization of Life (Use arrows)
Cell→Tissue→Organ→Organ System→Organism
Who discovered cells and what substance did he observe?
Robert Hooke discovered cell and he looked a piece of cork slice.
What is cellulose and where can it be found?
Cellulose are fibers and can be found in the cell wall.
What is an ecosystem?
The community and all of the non living things that affect it (water, soil, etc.)
What is a population?
Group of organisms that are the same kind and live in the same area.
What is a community?
2 or more different populations living in the same area.
What is a Eukaryotic Cell?
Have a nucleus, membrane bound organelles, linear DNA, and make up everything thats not prokaryotic.
What is a prokaryotic cell?
Don't have a nucleus, doesn't have a membrane organelle, circular DNA, Bacteria is only prokaryotic.
What are ribosomes? What does it produce?
The site where amino acids hook together to produce proteins.
What is the largest organ?
Skin
What are the 3 parts of the cell theory?
-All Organisms are composed of 1 or more cells.
-Cells are the basic unit of all living things.
-All cells come from existing cells.
