What is the "Great Decision"?
|
Great Decision- Petition to Phi Delta Theta for TKE to become its own national fraternity. The speech was given by Wallace G. McCauley titled, “Opportunity Out of Defeat.”

TKE Magazine- Titled, “The TEKE.”- one of the measures advocated by McCauley in his address was to publish a quarterly magazine. First issue was published in January 1908, with Clyde M. Leach as the editor.

And held the office of Grand Pryantis for two terms. During second term in office, the first TKE house was constructed for Epsilon Chapter.

|
National fraternities were folding because of insufficient support, but under the strong leadership of Grand Pryantis Beach and other devoted men, TKE weathered the storm and even progressed

|
eight new chapters were added and many chapters pledged larger numbers of men each year. Only two Chapters University of Chicago, University of Nebraska were not active following the Great Depression. Absorbed the membership of a small national fraternity Sigma Mu Sigma in 1934, resulted in 1 new chapter alpha-phi.

In the early years TKE did not suffer greatly. In 1942 they pledged 568 men as opposed to 475 men last October. Also a record 628 men were initiated into TKE

|
In 1943 it declined. Only 19 chapters were active and only two chapters, Alpha-Zeta (Purdue) and Alpha-Phi (Kansas), had houses. No conclaves were held. TEKE magazinewas replaced with a cheaper paper Teke Life.

What was the "Big Decision"?
|
Whether our limited financial resources should be exhausted in an attempt to keep all chapters active throughout the war, or to recognize the impossibility of that objective and concentrate on preparing an aggressive and effective rehabilitation and expansion program after the war. The second choice was chosen.
