A: A strong backer of expansion he bought Alaska for 7.2 million dollars in 1867. At first people thought that this was not a wise move they called this place "Sewards Icebox" and "Polar Bear Garden". It was actully a good purchase though because it was rich of natural resources like gold, lumber, fish, and oil.

A: Became the leader of Hawaii in 1891. She believed that the planters had too much influence and wanted to limit their powers. American planters were upset because of this so they staged a revolt with the help of U.S. Marines. They over threw the queen and set up their own government.

A: Force to leave cuba in the 1870s because he spoke out for independence. After he left he spent much of his time in the U.S. He started planning a revolt against Spain to get Cuba their independence.

A: He was sent by Spain to crush rebels. Weyler's methods were harsh. He forced many Cubans from their hames and place them in camps guarded by Spanish troops. Many died of starvation and disese in the camps.
