Chemical Property
The ability of a sustance to undergo chemical reactions and to form new substances
Chemical Reaction
The changing of substances by the breaking of bonds in reactants and the formation of bonds in products.
Chemical Symbol
A one or two letter representation of an element.
Compound
A substance that can be separated into simpler substances (elements or other compounds) only by chemical reactions
Distillation
A purification process in which a liquid is evaporated and then condensed again to a liquid; used to separate dissolved solids from liquids or liquids from liquids according to boiling point.
Element
A substance that cannot be changed into simpler substances under normal laboratory conditions
Gas
Matter that has no definite shape or volume; it adopts the shape and volume of its container
Heterogeneous Mixture
A mix that isn't uniform in composition; its components are readily distinguished
Homogeneous Mixture
A mix that is completely uniform in composition its components aren't readily distinguished
Law of Conservation of Energy
Energy is neither created nor destroyed in an ordinary chemical or physical process, only recycled.
Liquid
A form of matter that flows, has a fixed volume, and takes the shape of its container.
Mass
The amount of matter that an object contains; the SI base unit of mass is the kilogram
Matter
Anything that takes up space
Mixture
A physical blend of two or more substances that are not chemically comvined
Physical Change
An alteration of a substance that doesn't affect its chemical composition
Physical Property
A quality of a substance that can be observed or measured with out changing the chemical composition of the substance.
Product
A substance formed in a chemical reaction.
Reactant
A starting substance in a chemical reaction
Solid
Matter that has a definite shape and volume
Solution
A homogeneous mixture
Substance
A sample of matter having a uniform and definite composition.
