Characteristics of "good" Research questions

The question is testable

What is an Empirical Question?

Should be clearly defined and answerable with the evidence collected (data). So the questions are testable!




Ex. "Doen stress cause people to have road rage?" Testable "Is God Real?" Not Testable therefore,not Empirical.

What is IRB?

The University committee that is responsible for determining whether a proposed research project conforms to accepted ethical standards.

What is the purpose of the IRB?

is to ensure that the experimenter treats research participants, whether they are humans or animals, according to the established ethical guide lines.

What is Deception?

is when the scientist don't tell the participants of an experiment the so called "object" of the experiment

What is Debriefing?

is when the nature of the experiment is explained to the participant.

Why is debriefing necessary?

It is necessary because it is done in order to remove or alleviate any undesirable consequences the participants may be experiencing and try and return them back to the same state of mind they were prior to the experiment.




What two things must occur for someone to be debriefed?

1.Dehoaxing- tell true nature of study


2. Desensitizing-Returning participant to pre experiment stat of mind

How do you identify ethical misconduct?

Any thing that doesn't follow the APA ethical principles.
