Atom
is a subatomic particle that make up atoms are protons, neutrons and electrons. Atoms have the same amount of protons and electrons so their charge balances out and become neutral.
Protons
positively charged and has the same mass as a neutron. (+)
Neutrons
have no charge at all same mass a proton.
Electron
Negative charged atom that keep moving outside the nucleus because the energy is always moving. (-)
Element
A pure substance that is one type of atom.
Ex. H for Hydrogen Na for Sodium
Atomic number
The number of protons in the nucleus of an element. Is in the top left corner.
Isotopes
Atoms of the same element that differ in the number of neutrons identified by their mass number.
Mass number
The total number of protons and neutrons in the nucleus of an atom
