Aortic Valve

Semilunar valve

Location: between the left ventricle and aorta

Atrial conducting fibers

The specialized conduction fibers that transmit the cardiac impulse.

Atrium

Upper chamber of the heart. Receives blood from the veins.

Automaticity

The ability of cardiac cells to generate its own electrical signals independently of stimulation from the Central Nervous System.

AV Node

A part of cardiac conduction.

System that acts as a relay station for the electrical signals coming from the SA node in the right atrium into the ventricles.

Bicupsid Valve

The AV valve between the left atrium and left ventricle ; also called mitral valve

Cardiology

The study of the heart

Chordae Tendineae

Tough fiberous bands of Connective Tissue that attaches the cusps of the AV valve to the walls of the heart's ventricles.

Conduction System

Specialized tissue in the heart that generates and transmits the electrical signals.

Coronary Arteries

The right and left coronary arteries which deliver oxygenated blood to the heart muscle.

Electrocardiogram

Graphic recording of the electrical events that occur during the cardiac cycle.

Endocardium

Inner lining of the hearts wall

Great Vessels

The large blood vessels that carry blood to and away from the heart.

Heart

The hollow muscular pump that pumps blood to the lungs for oxygenation and then to the rest of the body.

His-Purkinje System

A path of specialized conducting cells within the ventricles of the heart.

Interatrial Septum

The septum between the right and left atria of the heart.

Mitral Valve

See bicuspid valve

Myocardium

Heart muscle

Pacemaker

Specialized conduction tissue located in the upper right atrium.

Pericardium

Slinglike serous membrane that partially encloses the heart.

Precordium

Area of anterior chest that over lies the heart.

Purkinje Fibers

Fast conducting fibers located in the ventricular walls.

Rhythmicity

Regularity in tempo

SA Node

Pacemaker of the heart

Semilunar Valves

A valve located between the ventricles and their attached vessels.

Tricuspid Valve

AV Valve found between the right atrium and right ventricle

Ventricles

Cavity in an organ such as the ventricles in the heart and the brain.
