The Past Perfect (pluperfect)

This tense is formed by using the imperfect tense of the auxiliary verb haber with the past participle of the verb that expresses the action or state. This tense is equivalent to the English had + past participle, as in "I had spoken." Generally, it expresses an action that had taken place before another action in the past.
