Gestational HTN

Onset of hypertension without proteinuria after the 20th week of pregnancy




Preeclampsia

-Pregnancy-specific syndrome


-HTN develops after 20 weeks gestation in


previously normotensive women


-vasospastic systemic disorder categorized as mild or severe




Eclampsia


- Seizure activity or coma in woman diagnosed with preeclampsia


-Seizures can occur before, during, or after birth




Chronic HTN

Present before the pregnancy or diagosed before week 20 of gestation


Signs and Symptoms of Preeclampsia

- Severe headache


- Hyperreflexia


- Positive ankle clonus


- Seizures


- Epigastric pain (Especially below the right breast)


- Vision changes (seeing spots or halos)


- Edema in the faces or hands


- Decreased urine output

Labs to monitor for Preeclampsia

- Liver enzymes


- Uric acid


- Creatinine


- BUN


- UA

HELLP syndrome

Hemolysis


Elevated


Liver Ensymes


Low Platelets



HELLP syndrome is associated with increased risk for:

- Pulmonary edema


- Renal failure


- Liver hemorrhage or failure


- DIC


- Placental abruption


- Sepsis


- Stroke


- Maternal/ fetal death

Symptoms of HELLP syndrome

Nonspecific: malaise, RUQ pain, flu-like symptoms.
