What are acrylic resins? |
Are hard, brittle, glassy polymers. |
What is chemically activated? |
an acrylic resin system that is supplied as a powder and a liquid. the liquid is a monomer (methyel methacrylate) and the powder is mostly polymethyl methacrylate. |
What is cold-cure? |
an acrylic resin system that is supplied as a powder and a liquid. the liquid is a monomer (methyel methacrylate) and the powder is mostly polymethyl methacrylate. |
What is a complete denture? |
Replaces an entire arch of missing teeth. |
What is a denture base? |
Is constructed on a master cast made from the final impression. It is the pink part of the denture that sits on the alveolar ridge. |
What is a denture setup? |
This is when all the denture teeth are set in wax. |
What is a flask? |
The thing filled with gypsum materials, and is what the denture master cast and denture setup are embedded in. |
What is a full denture? |
Replaces an entire arch of missing teeth. |
What does heat-activated do? |
are supplied as power/liquid systems similar to those of cold-cure resins. When mixed, the powder and liquid go through the same initial stages but no chemical activator is present. |
What is an immediate denture? |
Is placed at the same appointment during which the remaining teeth are extracted. |
What is a monomer? |
used in cold-cure and chemically activated acrylic resins and is methyl methacrylate. |
What is relining? |
Adds a small amount of new material to the inside tissue area of a denture base to replace to the additional alveolar ridge that has been lost since the denture was made. |
what is a removable partial denture? |
Used in patients that are partially edentulous, and is a prosthesis that can be removed by the patient. |
What is vertical dimension? |
The distance between the two arches. |
What is a wax try-in? |
Allows the patient to see the arrangement of teeth that their denture will have. Allows to check the function, occlusion (bite), and phonetics before the actual denture is processed. |
