Fort Sumter
This was the first battle of the Civil War. It is significant because there were no casualties and it made people think that it was going to be a quick war.
Battle Strategies of the North and South
The battle strategy for the North was the anaconda plan. This meant surrounding their enemy and cutting them off. The South's plan was just to be mostly defensive. The North's strategy is important becuase it shows how they utilized all their man power and really wanted to crush the South's will to fight. The South's strategy is significant because it shows they wanted the war fought there and didn't want to waste their man power.
Bull Run
This was the second battle of the Civil War. The Confederates attacked the North and the Union troops fled. This battle was signifcant because there were alot of casualties and it showed that it was not going to be an easy war.
Monitor and Merrimack
This was the first battle during the Civil War that was fought with ironclad warships. This was significant because it showed how new technology was going to be important during this war.
Antietam
This was the bloodiest day of war. Robert E Lee had invaded Maryland and thought it would surrender to the South but it did not. The Union won this war. This was significant because it gave Lincoln hope and encouraged him to issue the Emancipation Proclamation.
Emancipation Proclamation
Proclamation that Lincoln ordered that banned slavery. This was significant because it gave people hope of the war ending.
