Criteria for AV blocks

-PR interval prolonged (>0.20 secs) in some kind of sinus rhythm

OR

- some P waves not followed by QRS, P-P regular

First degree AV block

What is it?

-A prolonged PR interval due to a delay in the AV node’s conduction of sinus impulses to the ventricle.

- all impulses get thru but are 1delayed

- can be due to AV nose ischemia or other factors

1st degree AV Block rate

Can happen at any rate

1st degree AV Block regularity

Depends on underlying rhythm

1st degree AV Block

P waves

Upright, matching, 1 P per QRS

1st degree AV Block

Intervals

-PR prolonged (>0.20), constant

- QRS <0.12

1st degree AV Block

Cause

3 causes

-AV nose ischemia

- digitalis toxicity

-Med side effects (from beta blockers or calcium channel blockers)

1st degree AV Block

Adverse effects

Usually none

1st degree AV Block

Treatment

2 treatments

- remove medication causing it

- treat the cause
