Why did kings collect taxes?
The kings collected taxes in the times of war, so that they could protect against the nobles. Also, they collected taxes and granted Charters. This took away the power from the Nobles.

Yes, and they paid the king and this took power away from the nobles.

Renaissance scholars studied the world and the humans around them. They were called Humanists. They believed in the right for people to learn and think for themselves.
