Positioning

Helping residents into positions that promote comfort and health

Supine

Resident lies flat on their back, head and shoulders supported with pillows

Lateral

Lying on their side, pillows can support arm and leg on upper side, the back and head

Prone

Lying on stomach or front side of body, arms placed at the sides, raised above head or one is raised and one is by side

Fowlers

Semi-sitting 45-60 degree angle, head and shoulder are elevated using pillow or blanket as support

Sim’s

A left side-lying position. Lower arms behind the back, upper knee is flexes and raised toward the chest, using pillows as support

Draw sheet

An extra sheet placed on top of the bottom sheet when bed is made
