CONSTITUTIONAL LAW
Law that involves the interpretation and application of the U.S. constitution & state constitutions.
STATE
A political community located in a specific area.
NATION
A large group of people who deem themselves united by their race, religion, customs or language.
NATION-STATE
When a nation & state coincide. Group of people bound by cultural similarities plus political similarities.
SOVEREIGNTY
When a government creates and enforces its own laws, without the authority of another state/government.

A function of the gov't is to provide the services that no one person could provide. (i.e. paving roads)
MAINTAINING NATIONAL SECURITY
A purpose of the gov't is to protect people against attacks by other states or from terrorism.
