6 Parts of Culture

The six parts of culture are, Geography/Physical location,Daily Practices,Religious beliefs, Communication,Buildings/tools,and Jobs/roles.

Land Bridge

A land bridge is a bridge of land.

Aztec

Made human sacrifices, usually using prisoners of war, to their gods. Conquered neighboring communities and forced them to work as slaves.

Maya

Built 20 story pyramids with temples on top. Developed a 365 day Mayan Calender. They were a theorcracy. They developed hieroglyphics.

Inca

Farmed on the sides of hills using terraces - broad platforms. Had over 10,000 miles of stone-paved roads. Their religion included worshipping llamas, and other protective spirits.

Peoples of the West

They fished for food - especially salmon. Had communication and traded with other settlers. Had purification ceremonies in "sweat lodges". One type of their dwelings are longhouses.

Peoples of the Southwest

They lived in homes made of mud brick called adobe. They lived in the desert. They traded with other southwest tribes and into Mexico.

Peoples of the North

Had no leaders- all had equal roles. They had totem poles. The place they lived in was igloos. They believed in animism-where they honored animal spirits. They worshipped a sea god.

Peoples of the Plains

They traveled around the plains to find food. They became skilled horseback riders and hunters. They used buffalo for food, shelter, tools, etc. Many people were mound builders.

Peoples of the East

Lived in the woodlands. Formed federations that linked groups in order to bring peace. They lived in longhouses and wigwams.They believed that if someone indulged in cannibalism they could turn into a "wendigo" -half man, half monster.

Peoples of the Southeast

They celebrated the "three sisters"-beans,corn, and squash. They lived along rivers and farmed the fertile ground there. They worshipped a deer god among other gods.
