What does Weather mean?
the state of the atmosphere at some place and time described in terms of such quantitative variables as temperature, humidity, cloudiness, precipitaion, and wind speed and direction.
What does Meteorology mean?
the study of the atmosphere and the processes that cause weather.
What does Climate mean?
weather conditions at some locality averaged values of climatic elements are computed over a 30-year period beginning with the first year of a decade
What does Climatology mean?
study of climate, its control, and spatial and temporal variability.
What does N.W.R mean?
National Weather Radio is an all hazards radio network.
What does N.O.A.A mean?
National Oceanic Atmospheric Adminstration
What does N.W.S mean?
National Weather Service operates low power VHF high band FM radio transmitters that broadcast continuous weather info.
What does S.A.M.E mean?
Specific Area Message Encoding sounds an alarm only if weather watch or warning.
What does Pressure Systems mean?
Are two types highs or anticyclones and lows or cyclones.
What are the three types of clouds?
Stratiform, Cumlus, and Cumulonibus
Air Pressure
weight per unit area of a column of air that strecthes upward from the Earths surface to the top of the atmosphere.
Air Mass
huge volume of air covering hundreds of thousands of square kilometers that is horizontally realitively uniform in the temperature and humidity typically associated with a large high pressure
Front
A narrow transition zone between air masses that differ in temp, humidity, or both.
What are the types of air mass?
cold and dry, cold and humid, warm and dry, warm and humid.
What are the types of front?
stationary, cold, and warm.
Maxium Temperature
highest air tempereture recorded over a 24 hour period usually between midnight of one day to midnught of the next day.
Dewpoint (frost point)
temperature to which air must be cooled at constant pressure to become saturated with water vapor and for dew to begin forming on realitively cold surfaces.
Releative Humidity
measure of actual concentration of the water vapor componet of air compared to the concentration the air would have if saturated with water vapor.
Precipitation Amount
depth of rainfall or melted snowfall over a 24 hour period
Dobbler Affect
a radar that detects bad weather
Sky Cover
fracation of the sky the clouds cover
Wind Direction/ wind speed
According to meterological tradition wind direction is the compass direction for which the wind blows.
Weather Watch
when hazardous weather is considered possible based on current or anticipated atmospheric conditions
Weather Warning
when hazardous weather is imminet or actually taking place
What are the three types of fronts?
stationary, cold, warm
G.O.E.S
Geostationary Operational Environamental Satellite
Subsatellite Point
the location on the Earths surface directly below the satellite is essintally on the equator
P.O.E.S
Polar Operational Environmental Satellite
What is the ionoshpere and where is it located?
The ionoshpere is in the thermoshpere. Ionosphere is the outter region of the earths atmosphere and has free electrons
How many layers does the ionosphere have?
It has three layers
Explain in detail the layers of the ionosphere?
E-layer was discovered in 1901 when Marconi transmitted a signal between Europe and Nort America and it bounced off. D-layer dissapears at night. F-layer splits into two layers in the daytime and combine at night.
