What is chaining |
The process of teaching complex tasks that are made up of smaller tasks |
|
Name the types of chaining procedures |
Forward chaining Backward chaining Totao task presentation |
|
What is forward chaining |
Teaching a task starting at the first step. When that step is mastered and the child can perform independently you teach step 2. When child can independently perform steps 1 and 2 independently you teach step 3 and so on. |
|
What is backward chaining |
You begin teaching a task at the last step. When the child can independently perform the last step you teach the second last step and so on. |
|
What is total task presentation |
You present the whole task to the child. All steps are in acquisition. You view which steps the child can perform independently and prompt him through the steps he has difficulty with. |
|
How do you reinforce total task presentation |
You can reinforce at the end of the entire task if the child was prompted with minimally invasive prompts.. Or you can reinforce at the end of every correctly performed step. Which can promote prompt dependency |
