What is a dictator?
A person with complete control over a government. Usually not elected.
What is a Landino?
Guatemalan's with native and European ancestry.
What is a Mulato?
A person with African and European ancestry.
What is the difference between a colony and a dependency?
A colony must win or make an agreement to become independent. A dependency always has the choice.
Why did so many Africans come to the West Indies and Central America?
Because the Europeans had killed so many natives that there were not enough of them to work. They needed more workers so they brought over Africans.
Who was Toussait L'Overture?
He led the slave uprising in Haiti.
Why do we call them the West Indies?
Because Columbus thought he was in the Indies (India and the Phillipines) and these islands are in the western hemisphere.

Sugar Cane.
Why did the Spanish-American war start?
The U.S.A. wanted to help free Puerto Rican and Cuban people, and to protect their plantations on those islands.
