Referendum

a general vote by by the electorate on a single political question that has been referred to them for a direct decision.

Initiative

The ability to assess and initiate things independently.

Direct Initiative

A measure is put directly to a vote after being submitted by a petition. In an indirect initiative, a measure is first referred to the legislature, and then put to a popular vote only if not enacted by the legislature.

Line item Veto

The power of a president, governor, or other elected executive to reject individual provisions of a bill.

Municipality

A city or town that has corporate status and local government.

One Person, One vote

The principle that all citizens, regardless of where they reside in a state, are entitled to equal legislative representation.
