Classification:

is a systematic arrangement into groups or categories based on a common attributes.

Gingivitis:

an inflammation of the periodontium that is confined to the gingiva resulting in damage to the gingival tissue that is reversible.

Periodontitis:

A bacterial infection of the periodontium resulting in destruction of all parts of the periodontium including the gingiva periodontal ligament, bone, cementum; results in irreversible destruction to the tissues of the periodontium.

Periodontal disease:

inflammation of the periodontium.

American Academy of periodontology:

on association of dental professionals specializing in the prevention diagnose and treatment of the disease affecting of periodontium.

Plaque-induced gingival disease:

are periodontal disease involving inflammation of gingiva in response to bacteria located at the gingival margin; gingivitis associated with plaque biofilm formation is the most common form of the gingival disease.

Non-plaque induced gingival lesion:

periodontal disease that are not caused by bacterial plaque biofilm and do not disappear after plaque biofilm removal; however, the presence of dental plaque biofilm could increase the severity of the gingival inflammation in non-plaque induced lesion.

Chronic periodontitis:

bacterial infection of the periodontium resulting in inflammation within the supporting tissues of the teeth, progressive destruction of periodontal ligament, and loss of sporting alveolar bone, involves irreversible loss of attachment and bone is the most frequently occurring form of periodontitis.

Aggressive periodontitis:

A bacterial infection of the periodontium characterized by a rapid destruction of periodontal ligament, rapid loss of supporting bone, high risk for tooth loss, and a poor response to periodontal therapy.

Periodontitis as a manifestation of systematic disease:

Group of president disease, that is associated with two general category of systematic disease; hematological (blood) disorders, such as leukemia or acquired neutropenia, and genetic disorders, such as Down syndrome leukocyte adhesion deficiency syndrome.

Necrotizing periodontal disease: .

unique type of periodontal disease that involves tissue necrosis (localized tissue death) characterized by painful infection with ulceration, swelling and sloughing off the dead epithelial tissue from the gingiva

Periodontal abscess:

a localized collection of pus that forms in a circumscribed area of the periodontal tissue that effects the deeper structures of the Periodontium as well as the gingival tissues.

Periodontitis associated With endodontic lesions:

a category of periodontal disease that involves infection or death of the tissues of the dental pulp.

Tissue necrosis

localized tissue death
