John Winthrop
He was the first governor of Massachusetts Bay Colony, and founder. He received a royal charter from James the first that sets up a joint stock company. Then sends English to migrate to the new world.
Roger Williams
He was a dissenter which totally disagreed with the practice of any religion. He guaranteed the separation of church, state and religious freedom. Founded Providence Rhode Island.
Anne Hutchinson
She held religious discussions and biblical readings in her home. She taught followers that the bible enlightens the heart of the reader. Anne removed church authorities from interpenetrating the bible. She was banished and then moved to Providence with her family
New Netherlands
The dutch sailed up to what was known as the Hudson River and the dutch government granted The Dutch west India Company permission to colonize new Netherlands. This expanded the thriving fur trade.
Duke of York vs. Gov. Stuyvestant
The Duke of York wanted to run the Dutch out He arrived in Amsterdam Harbor with a fleet of men, and later named the colony New York. Unlike the Duke Governor peter Stuyvesant did not have a well trained army and was forced to surrender without firing a shot.
Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania bought land from the natives not just stole it. Non Quaker Europeans flooded PA mistreating the natives. Pennsylvanian society lead to attacks on different people such as ethnic groups and they did not have a restriction of immigration.
Quaker State/Law
Quakers offended quacked during religious practices. They also refused to pay taxes to support the church of England. Believed that all were children of god and refused to treat upper class with difference. They held services without a formal minister.
Map of the Thirteen Colonies
In 1632 King Charles I granted a charter for land North of the Chesapeake Bay to George Calvert. Calvert's son Cecil named the colony Maryland after the Queen Henrietta Maria. In 1663 King Charles II awarded land between Virginia and Spanish Florida. Later known as North and South Carolina. In 1732 a English Philanthropist named James Oglethorpe received a charter of Georgia. By 1752 there were thirteen colonies
